~Playing The Victim~
We all know a person or people
who are amazing at playing the victim. Some are aware of what they are doing
and some are not. Some are victims by default because of traumatic events that
have happened in their younger years that they may have not gotten over.
Regardless of how a person plays the victim I will speak from experience of
being in the midst of this particular energy say that it is one of the most
draining energies to come across. I have friends and family who have people
around them who they deal with from work or school etc and they have to be in
the midst of these people so they are desperate to find a way to cope with
these energies.
To be honest when in the
midst of the victim energy I have found it effective to ignore the person when
they start up their “whine fest”. A whine fest is a person who cries or whines
to get their way or to make you feel sorry for them so that in the end they
feel like they have won. I do honestly believe people who play the victim feel
like it is a game to be won so they have to give it all they have to prove to
others how hurt and picked on they feel. How do you spot a person who
consistently plays the victim? Look at
their patterns. When they are upset how do they handle conflicts?
It is one thing for
people to tell you how they feel or how you made them feel but in any
interaction with people it should be mutual when you are sharing your feelings
with others to gain a conclusion to a problem that has arose. The alleged
victim should not hear your side and still plead their case and tell you why
you were wrong and cry and whine until you feel like you need to baby them and
pat them on the back for reassurance. That takes so much energy it is draining
to say the least. My advice would be to ignore the victim like you would ignore
a toddler who is having a temper tantrum. Do not put much energy into them
because it will only get worse over time. You have to teach people how to treat
you.
