~What Makes a Great Debate~
I feel like a great debate is one where a person actually knows about what it is they are debating about as well as the opposing view. Many times in debates you will find people who are debating and having one sided debates which is not fun and very much draining. I do not know about you but I am a person that used to love debates years ago but now not so much because it seems like the rules have changed. I view being one sided as a person who only has an opinion or facts on the side that they are routing for and not on the side that they are against.
Many times from what I have seen in debates of new is that people only are concerned with their facts and their opinions and the wanting of being right so much that they do not want to listen to opposing facts or opinions and the whole debate ends up being a big waste of time. In my opinion if a person can not learn or at least get an understanding of both sides and still stand strong on their views and agree to disagree then it is a waste of time.
In order to have a meaningful debate shouldn't you know about both sides? Personally I would not want to enter a debate without having knowledge on what the topics are about and what side I am on and what side I am against but hey that is just me and how I would do things. I do realize that everyone is different. I really miss the old school debates where it was respectful and people came out of them learning or having an appreciation for each other and their thoughts.
These days debates have turned into screaming matches, cursing matches, I will unfriend you on social media because I am right and you are wrong matches. All of this is draining to me and I stay away from it all. Every now and then I catch a nice debate that is meaningful and people actually respect one another but it is few and far between which is indeed sad. Humans you gotta love em...
